2023 State of the Movement Address

Every year, I am very intentional about where I want to see this movement go and what is possible with this platform we have built together. However, at the end of 2022, I realized something quite heart breaking that made me look at the purpose of this movement in a very different way. It was the undeniable fact that the hyper-sexualization of women's bodies had gotten so much worse, to the extent that now instead of people respecting the laws in place to protect a mother and baby's human right to feed in public, instead those with perverse intentions decided to sexualize the mother baby bond instead.

That's right. People started hijacking public videos from breastfeeding moms, share with inspirational and educational intent, only to edit and transform them into pornographic content to share on social platforms such as Tiktok.

It's overwhelming as a breastfeeding portrait photographer to never have considered that people with bad intentions would ever take it this far. But, no matter how unfortunate the scenario is - it is happening at an alarming rate.

On the Letdown Podcast, I was interviewed about my thoughts on how to resolve this huge problem. We talked about the state of the movement, what challenges we are currently facing as a community of families and how our organization plans to move forward into the future to continue to uplift, inspire, and normalize feeding our babies with biological milk.
